Tourism Is The Practice Of Traveling For Recreation

First let me explain tourism as defined by our course: tourism is the practice of traveling for recreation, while traveling away from home for an extended amount of time. I am specifically Focusing on how culture has defined tourism in the eastern United States. Throughout history, tourism has had a huge impact on the world. Tourism opens many different opportunities, not only for the consumer, but for the economy as well. It also teaches tolerance of others many for a consumer, the economy, and the tolerance of others. Tourism promotes travel and trade, leading to human interaction. Cultural differences can be adopted and developed into better customs. Historically, the Romans inspired the first movement of tourism. My research showed that, (Osie 2012) â€Å"There were a lot of factors that contributed to the development of travel and tourism during the reign of the Roman Empire† (pg. 1). The Emperor pushed for travel and tourism mainly because (Osie 2012) Trade [and] exchan ge of goods†¦ [The developed] road networks, religious activities, sporting events, travel technologies, motivated travel and tourism (pg.1). The Roman’s advanced road system helped promote travel, the famous saying â€Å"All roads lead to Rome† was created because of the innovation of their road system. The Catholic Church sent missionaries out of Rome using these roads; the church also encouraged pilgrimages for religious reasons these Romans were the first tourists ever.
